Event planned in memory of Alyson Tozer

The community is invited to celebrate the life of Alyson Tozer with her family and friends at La Paz County Park. The event will be held Sunday, October 5th starting at 6 p.m.

Aly passed away Tuesday, September 16th after a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis. Her parents Rich and Teresa want to have a time during which people can remember Aly, gather and celebrate who she was. They have arranged for live music, food and soft drinks starting around sunset near the Lagoon area, with a balloon release at 7:13 p.m.

Everyone is invited. Bring a chair as there will be a limited number there, and bring a cuddly toy / teddy bear if you’d like to contribute something. Aly’s charity is called Grin & Bear It and provides cuddly toys to patients at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, which was Aly’s ‘home away from home’ as she went in for treatment often.

For those wishing to give monetary donations, there is a nonprofit account at Horizon Community Bank called “65 Roses for Aly”, with all initial donations going to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for research. Her parents have also suggested The Ronald McDonald House, an organization that gave their family a place to stay near the hospital for many years.

The artwork above is based on an idea for a photograph that came from Aly herself. She wanted to do a picture for cystic fibrosis awareness of herself in a pool, looking straight up at the camera surrounded by rose petals (65 Roses is the motif of CF). We never got to do the photo with her, but it’s very fitting. -JW
