A Parker teenager has been awarded a $20,000 scholarship by MTV’s Total Request Live (TRL).
Sidney Has No Horses is a senior at Parker High School who submitted a video applying for the scholarship, but says she had no idea it would go anywhere. She ended up becoming the first winner of TRL’s Scholarship Week, appearing on the show Monday.
Host DC Young Fly interviewed Sidney on-air at the show’s Times Square studio, asking her about her last name:
“My last name, what it means to me, it’s very unique,” she said, surrounded by audience members. “Not a lot of people have it, I’m pretty sure only 3 people have it and that’s my family. But, having that last name and getting picked on but not caring what it is, I feel proud to have it.”
Being asked about her chances of winning, Sidney said she didn’t anticipate it at all:
“To be honest I didn’t think I had any chance, I just did it just do it and I just didn’t know I was going to be here. Just, wow.”
Sidney, who was wearing her Parker Broncs shirt, was then told she had won the money and was presented with a giant check for $20,000.
“I plan on going to Northern Arizona University for like 10 years to get a Phd in astronomy and physics,” she said.
