Summer 2014: the Parker Strip

Summer 2014: Parker Strip

Why do thousands each year visit this 11-mile stretch of the Colorado River?Boats, beverages, and bikinis; three things that you’ll find in abundance on the Parker Strip every summer. The Parker Strip is an 11-mile section of the Colorado River between Parker Dam and Headgate Rock Dam in Parker, Arizona…but chances are you already know that. It’s best known for it’s excellent boating, skiing, wakeboarding, and other water related recreational activities. The Parker Strip has been an attraction for generations of weekend warriors and will be for many more to come.

This past weekend was the third major Summer weekend here in Parker. Considering the success of both Memorial Day weekend and Tube Float, the Fourth of July had plenty to live up to. It did not disappoint. Once again local motels, resorts, campgrounds, and other accommodations were booked near capacity and homes located up and down the Parker Strip were rented out by many seeking a fun holiday weekend.
If you love boating, skiing, wakeboarding, and other water related recreational activities then Parker, Arizona is your home for on-the-water Fun!
The next big holiday weekend is a little ways off on the horizon, in fact Labor Day isn’t for another 55 days! That gives anyone plenty of time to visit the waters of the Colorado River in Parker, especially if you enjoy a little less boat traffic.  A little tip from this Parker Strip observer: if you find yourself here on a major weekend and think to yourself, “I wish I had more of the river to myself…”, may I suggest returning the following weekend as well? Typically, the weekend immediately following a holiday sees a lower amount of river traffic. Two weekends in a row at the River…what is this, Heaven?!
No, it’s Parker, Arizona.
