Meet the Candidates!

UPDATE: The original event had the candidates for Sheriff on August 21st; that has now been changed below as Sheriff candidates will now appear on August 14th instead.

The Parker Area Chamber of Commerce will host two Meet the Candidates events this month. The reason for two sessions is because of the large number of folks running for offices in La Paz County and those also running for state and federal representation of our area. We need to give each candidate time to state their platform and have adequate time to answer questions.

The first event will be held Tuesday, August 14th, 2012 at Blake School at 6:30 PM. This session will feature your local La Paz County candidates for the offices of Board of Supervisors, District 1; Board of Supervisors District 2; County School Superintendent; County Assessor, County Sheriff.

The second will be held Tuesday, August 21st at Parker Community Senior Center at 6:30 PM. This session will feature your local candidates for United States Senator; US Representative in Congress, District 4; State Senator, District 5; US Representative in Congress, District 5; State Representative, District 5; Corporation Commission.

At each session, the candidates will be introduced and allowed to state their platform for 3 minutes. Questions from the floor will be entertained and candidates will be given 2 minutes to respond. If there is a question for a specific candidate, that candidate will have 2 minutes to respond. Each candidate in that category will be given the opportunity to respond, as well in the time frame of 1 minute.

Questions must be relevant to the office and personal attacks will not be tolerated. The questions will be verbal from the audience. This gives credibility to the questions being asked.

Our goal is provide a fair platform for all concerned so that the community can exercise their right to vote for the candidates that fit into their own beliefs.

Unopposed candidates will not be given a verbal platform but are more than welcome to attend.

Please RSVP to (928) 669-2174 by August 9th, 2012 so that we may plan accordingly.
