Hemet Productions’ premiere screening of ‘Goatman: Search for the Legend’ on Friday night was many times more popular than anticipated. Estimates ranged from 250 to 300 people who showed up to watch the short documentary film on the local legend, most of them standing or sitting on the floor for the duration, which included an introduction by the group at the beginning.
Demand for copies of the film on DVD was high too. Around 20 DVDs had been brought to the screening and were all taken within a few minutes of the credits rolling, leaving the rest to take an order form.
Reviews of the film were very positive afterwards, flooding Facebook with comments: “It was wayyyy cool!” “It was great, we loved it!” “It was awesome!” Perhaps the comment which summed up the response of most was this one: “I enjoyed this very much. I can’t say that I believe in Goatman any more or any less than before, though.”

On November 3rd, at 6pm at Parker High School-Multi Purpose Room (1600 Kofa), the La Paz County Board of Supervisors is holding a work session to discuss the BLM ”Trail Closure” issue impacting La Paz County and surrounding areas.
If you are an ATVer, offroader or just enjoy our beautiful desert and its trails you will definitely want to attend. This meeting is to inform the public about this issue. We will have members from the Arizona Sun Riders Club, also from Parker Four Wheelers who will be in attendance.
This will have a huge financial impact on our economics here in La Paz County if these trails are closed. This is a County wide issue that impacts not only our residents but the thousands of winter visitors who come and enjoy our beautiful desert and its trails. We hope you will join us and help support keeping our trails open.
If you have any questions on this meeting please call the La Paz County Board of Supervisors for more information: (928) 669-6115

Arizona Public Service’s scheduled power outage includes the towns of Parker, Quartzsite and Utting, according to APS. This led many hearers to ask where Utting is, a town most of us have apparently never heard of. According to Google Maps (above), Utting is located between Bouse and Hope along Highway 72 east of Parker. It even has an airstrip. (According to one caller to KLPZ this morning, only a metal recycling facility exists there now.)
Other listed communities along Highway 72: McVay, and Bush Pit.

PRESS RELEASE from the LA PAZ COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT:
On October 22, 2010 at approximately 10:41 hours, William Walzak was arrested for Escape and Felony Flight (from Law Enforcement). On the above date at approximately 10:15 hours, William Walzak was appearing before Superior Court Judge Richard Weiss for a pending case, at which time he was remanded to the custody of the La Paz County Detention Facility. Upon hearing this decision, Walzak ran from the Court Room, got into a vehicle and drove away with Detention Officers and other Court personnel attempting to stop him.
While driving back to his residence (northbound on State Route 95), Walzak was spotted by Deputy M. Harris from the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office. Once Deputy Harris had the assistance of Parker Police Officer J. Irwin, they attempted to make a traffic stop between the River Island Market and Holiday Harbor. Walzak refused to pull over for the Officers and continued driving until reaching a friend’s home in Holiday Harbor. Upon arriving at the residence, Walzak jumped from the vehicle in an attempt to make it into the home. When he realized that he was going to be intercepted prior to making it into the door, he returned to his vehicle, locked himself inside and attempted to commit suicide with a razor blade.
In an effort to save Walzak’s life, Deputy Harris broke the passenger side window and pulled Walzak from the vehicle taking him into custody. Walzak was transported to the La Paz Regional Hospital and was treated for his injuries.
