Robb, if by “kids” you mean those 6 and under, then maybe. But I can’t see anyone over the age of 6 finding any entertainment in running under what amounts to fancy sprinklers.
I grew up in Parker and one of my fondest childhood memories was summers at the pool. Jumping off the high dive, diving to the bottom of the deep end with goggles (13 feet seemed SOO deep back then.) Going into the baby pool (when the lifeguards let me get away with it) to catch all the water-bugs that were in there. Even going to Night Swim every now and then. I had fun going there up until I started High School in ‘96. Not to mention the pool was a good source of summer jobs for High School students as cashiers and lifeguards.
Its sad that the pool is gone and will never return, and is instead being replaced by something you can buy from Home Depot’s Lawn Care section. The Town Council should be ashamed they let a huge part of growing up in Parker go away because of mismanagement and cost cutting.
Tony, I agree with you in principle. It is definitely difficult to imagine how the town can close the pool. I understand it costs money to restore and run, but come on! It could and would generate revenue in the form of use fees etc. Vendor items like food, beverages, t-shirts etc. Someone somewhere decided that it was too difficult to do and was unwilling to make the hard choices to make it happen.
I also think that the Tribes could have and should have stepped up to help make it happen. That money would have been a drop in the bucket – no pun intended – to the Tribes and would most assuredly benefited tribal kids as much if not more than everyone else.
How about putting together a Parker Pool memory album with reminiscings as above plus photographs. An inisder-driven keepsake might make a good case for future pro-pool negotiations.
Errr, Tony? I’m 49 and still play with the hose. Bouse has hot summers and there’s not much else to do!
Hey guys! I share your frustration with the pool issue. However when the splash park was presented it was and is ment to be “in addition” to the pool! With hard economic time we are unable to come up with the funding to build a new facility. As many of you know it was me on the front page of the paper fighting tooth and nail for our pool. I still stand strong on the issue of a new pool. I believe that right now, in hard economic times, is the time to get thigs put together. I like to say, “Get all 4 wheels on the car, so that when the economy turns around we will be ready to roll”!
Dont worry pool supporters, we will have another pool. Maybe not this year, but the town agree’s that we will look at this endeavor again down the line! Until then, continue to come out and get involved in your community! We need to build us back strong!
Another comment on here was about the tribes. I just wanted to add that they did give, I believe, $30,000.00 towards the pool. When the town lost the grant, town and tribes sat down again and decided that it will go to the cemetery!
I love to see all the concerned citizens of Parker Area! That is what makes us such an awesome town! I am so glad I call this my home and choose to raise my children here! Thanks Parker!

Thanks for the diagram. If I am looking at this right then the splash park will go in where the gazebo is right now?

Looks more like it will go in the southwest corner of the current pool site, based on that map.

But that map’s a little goofy.

Is that a technical term?

Ohhh, thanks Randy, it would help if I paid attention to the streets listed with the map!

It seems kind of small but it’s in a good location to get some use. Hopefully it will give the kids in Parker something to do this summer.
